Is a perception matter, it rimes, it has a message (cute one) but once again is a personal perception.

Maybe because a candy cane makes one think of happy times. Your poem is delightfully expressing the feelings of childhood enjoyment. That is not to say that only children like candy canes. Your poem makes me think of little “Cindy Who” in “How the Grinch Stole Christmas”. It reminds me of her holding a candy cane & smiling, her big eyes shining.

I’m thinking it is the cadence of the piece. I can picture a “cute” little toddler skipping along reciting this poem holding a candy cane. I don’t think your teacher meant it as a derogatory comment. It would be a nice little verse to attach to a candy cane and give as a little gift! Thanks for sharing.
